Dubai starts issuing permits for scooter driving

Authorities in Dubai are beginning to process permits for the use of electric scooters.
Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has started accepting online applications for permits for the use of electric scooters in the emirate.
To obtain the permits, you need to familiarize yourself with the rules of driving and road safety. Persons at least 16 years old can apply. They will learn, as part of an orientation course, the technical characteristics of scooters, the rules of their use, as well as the meaning of road signs.
The use of scooters without a driver’s license will be considered an infraction for which the fine will be 200 dirhams. An exception will be made for license holders to drive vehicles, including cars and motorcycles.
Currently, e-scooters can only be used on tracks specially adapted for them, outside jogging and pedestrian paths. The maximum speed is 20 km/h. It is only allowed to move alone, wearing a reflective vest and helmet.
Scooters must maintain a safe distance from vehicles and pedestrians. Crosswalks must be crossed on foot, rolling the scooter side by side. Scooters may only be parked in designated parking lots. Electronic scooters may be used by drivers over the age of 16.
Failure to comply with the rules is punishable by law, among the penalties are confiscation of the vehicle for a period of 30 days, in case of repeated violations – for a longer period, as well as the imposition of fines for traffic violations.
